I struggle with writer's block everyday. Prayer walks help me. I'm blessed to live in the inspirational setting of the Pacific Northwest. Ninety percent of my sentences must be wrestled from my thick brain, written and rewritten. Days later I look at it and say, "Yuck, what was I thinking?" I rewrite it again. I'm not gifted so much as stubborn. I won't quit until it's right.

Fulfilling my calling. I send Trojan horses of truth into hearts. The horse is the story, the truth is the life-changing gospel of God. What better vocation exists on this planet?

Writing is like singing. Even if you have natural talent, it must be augmented with training. If a friend says you are so gifted you should publish, use that as a sign that you are good enough to go into training. Take classes, attend conferences, and most importantly, practice everyday. Go prove your friend right.

India's Child, Based on the True Story of the Yanadi Tribe, will (hopefully) be released this week. Next on my agenda is to complete the final volume of Deep2Deep, a daily inspirational guide. Then I'm thinking of turning India's Child into a series about children I met in China, Africa, and Fiji. Each has a real story of God's incredible intervention.

We met such beautiful people in Latin America that each character is based on a real person. I used their names, appearances, and details from their lives. Sharing a season of real life with them inspired me to craft the story of Running South around these awesome souls.

The movie "Nim's Island" was about an author with writer's block who overcame phobias to go live out her character's story on an exotic island. That movie motivated me to go live Lexi's story in Running South. I took a friend and hitch-hiked through Latin America to experience what the protagonist would have. The story came to life as I met the people and saw the places for myself.
