Su J. Sokol When someone who reads my work understands what I am saying and connects very strongly with it. And then they tell me about it.
Su J. Sokol My current manuscript is a psychological drama with erotic elements about mental illness, passion, non-traditional family, and the conventions of friendship.
Su J. Sokol The idea for Cycling to Asylum came to me while biking home from work. I imagined a family biking across the border from the U.S. into Canada and making a claim for refugee status. If I wrote a book about that, I wasn't sure everyone would believe it was realistic, so I decided it should be a near-future dystopian/utopian tale. I also thought it would be important to tell the story from the perspectives of all the family members, and to include how the world looks from the seat of a bike instead of from behind the wheel of a car. In this way, Cycling to Asylum was born.
Su J. Sokol Write. Take a workshop. Join a writing group. Write. Did I mention writing?
