Grant Finnegan I fell in love with reading, and have always had a creative side I believe. So one day I thought I would give it a go, and try and write a story. I purchased books on how to write thrillers, and then wrote Stephen King's 'On writing.'
His story is inspiring, and he talks about what he thinks it takes to become a writer. He is one of my favorite authors and probably one of the strongest influences on my writing styles.
Grant Finnegan If you are serious about writing a novel - learn how to do it through a course, or books written on how you can learn the craft. Be prepared for long hours sitting at your computer - alone. I do it because I enjoy it. Unless you are extremely talented and it all falls directly on your lap, be prepared for a long journey, hours upon hours of writing, editing, and more writing and editing. But if you stick to it, you may end up getting rewarded at the end by completing a novel, and have people love reading it.
The most important question you need to ask yourself, I would suggest right at the start is simply this - how bad do you want this?
Grant Finnegan The best thing about being a writer - is creating a story which takes you, and your readers, to another place. Creating something which people enjoy, taking what you see in your imagination, and turning it into hopefully, an compelling and enjoyable story which people get lost in.
Grant Finnegan You sit at your PC and start up your writing program. You re-read what you wrote in your last writing session. You tell yourself you are not moving an inch until you have written something!
Grant Finnegan I was sitting at home watching the news this particular night. There was a news story about Qantas Airlines and during the report there was file footage being shown on planes taxing around the terminal at an airport. I thought about the people on-board and then it just hit me - how would they react if they knew the last five years had bypassed them?
