Helen H. Moore Walk into a bookstore! My competitive spirit, whichis usually dormant, wakes up and l want to create something new to take its place on the shelves!

Helen H. Moore In 2010 l read Hannah Rosin's article in the Atlantic titled "The End of Men." This followed by a few years Maureen Dowd's funny "Are Men Necessary," and preceeded by a few the publication of "Are Men Obsolete?" (Rosin, Dowd, Moran and Paglia). So the idea of male obsolescence was in the zeitgeist, and l caught on to it.

The notion of a female society that preferred its own company wasn't hard to envision, and the plot of "Bolting the Furies" developed from that. How could such a world come to be? An apocalyptic event that physically split a population of women off from the larger world seemed to offer the greatest number of fictional possibilities, and l built the novel upon that.
