I just take notice of everyday things. As a journalist I'm paid to pay attention. So that's what I do. I find inspiration in everything -- a subway ride, a get together with friends, or a TV show.

Just write. Even if you don't think it's very good -- just do it. We are our own toughest critics. Just get things out of your head and down on paper -- you can always refine it later.

As a kid I would write newsletters from the perspective of my toys! So I think I've always enjoyed telling stories and giving people (and stuffed animals) a voice.

I get up, make a cup of tea, call my mom or a friend on the phone or do anything to take myself away from the computer. All it takes if just about 15 minutes and I find I can get back on track.
