I'm currently working on The Golden Empress (the second book in the Threads Quartet); a novella that retells the story of Beauty and the Beast in an imaginary Central Asian country; a flash fiction story about a witch who's invaded another witch's basement; and the outline for a novella about calligraphers and demons.

The Golden City came from an image in a dream I had when I was in early middle school of an empty city in the middle of the desert. It was certainly influenced by images I'd seen of Petra in Jordan and the city of Persepolis in Tamora Pierce's The Lioness Quartet. That picture stayed in the back of my mind for over a decade, and I filled in imagery around it.
