Georgann Prochaska I grew up southwest of Chicago, so the setting of Murder Comes to Grindstone comes from experiences with tornadoes. The worst was when one storm punched in an upstairs window and threw it against my bedroom door. But storms then were not as big as storms now. Oak Lawn being the exception. And I always feel bad for the hit animals take during a storm.
The murder in Grindstone came from stories I read while doing genealogy. Some of my father's young cousins disappeared from records. Uneasy feeling about that.
Georgann Prochaska Currently, I'm working on Murder Comes to Madtree. What could be more peaceful than an apple orchard in the fall? Two of my characters, Lena and Julian have been flirting with getting married. In Madtree, they finally marry. And wouldn't you know it, police cars pull into the apple orchard just as their wedding is about to start. Some of the old characters are back for the wedding, and Alice needs special dispensation to have Audrey at the Madtree Inn.
Georgann Prochaska I usually don't have writer's block, but then I learned long ago to stop writing in the middle of an inspired moment. The excitement of writing a scene stays with me until I can resume writing the scene. When that scene is fairly complete, I begin the next and stop. It's like rewarding a dog's behavior with treats. Worked for my Shih Tzu.
