J.D. Stark If I could travel to any fictional book world, it would be the world of Harry Potter. I am not sure what I would do there but I think I would want to live there as a friend of Harry and his buddies.
J.D. Stark Six years old, living on a farm, I walk out our back door into the dark toward the row of tall pine trees getting ready to climb them as usual. Wind blowing, I am half way up my favorite tree when I feel something grab my leg making me want to scream, but I can't when I look into the eyes of the most horrendous living thing I've ever seen with sharp teeth and big eyes, and I feel myself falling before it grabs me and begins pulling me back toward its mouth.
J.D. Stark Some of my family's history is a mystery to me. I have envisioned a book going back to my great-grandparents lives. Maybe some day.
J.D. Stark I have experienced writer's block as I can imagine most everyone who writes does at one time or another. I usually get up and walk away. I allow myself to continue inside the story I am trying to create and I try to never block out the possibilities of any situation. I am generally excited to jump back into the challenge after backing away, and approaching my story from a different perspective.
J.D. Stark The best thing about being a writer is you have the opportunity to live in another world and time while sharing your adventures with others. Your creative space is where you can let people inside your thought process, let them look over your shoulder, and let them imagine themselves inside the lives of characters you have created.
J.D. Stark My advice for aspiring authors is to never give up, continue writing, know that not everyone will like your books, and seek friend's opinions on your book before seeking out a publisher. I am never happy with my writing and will read a manuscript over and over and over until I get so tired of it, I want to quit. Be careful not to be too much of a perfectionist, but it's okay to want to write the best book you can. Write every day and let your mind go.
J.D. Stark I am currently working on four books. The next one I will complete (this year possibly), is the follow up to "Revenge Factor". I am also working on A book about a man unwilling to accept reality in his life, but continues to move into new relationships. Another book I am working on is a comedy about a elderly man who decides he must develop a maintenance plan to keep his entire family at his control. We all know it won't work, but he continues on anyway. Another book is the story about a little boy who has always dreamed about getting an electric train, although his parents can't afford one.
J.D. Stark There really is no simple answer to what inspires me to write. Each idea for a subject to write about just comes to me at a time when I quite honestly do not expect it. I try to keep my thought process going all the time and will not back away from any idea that comes to me. I have numerous pages of one sentence ideas that I might someday attempt to turn into a book. The unfortunate thing is, I will probably never be able to write a book about every one of them. Even at that, I won't stop my process.
J.D. Stark The idea to write "Through the Milky Way" came to me several years ago while traveling and listening to some music. I could not get the idea of what if a child suffering through bullying used a talent to deal with it, then garnered support from those in his class to help him deal with it. I read about or hear about bullying almost every day. It's an emotional issue many are faced with, and some don't know how to cope with.
