Find something of all-absorbing interest to you to write about. Then finish what you write, so others can read it. If you can find a program where Your manuscript is critiqued by others, and theirs by you, it can be very enlightening. Constructive criticism is a real art. A pan from a critic who delivers nothing but scathing pans means nothing. A good critic must always be ready and willing to be entertained, moved and delighted. You will get good reviews and horrible reviews on the same work: everybody does. Look at the Goodreads or Amazon reviews of world-famous authors.

I'm working at answering these questions, i.e. trying to teach myself effective use of social media in order to promote my book, "Belshangles," after which I will be working at preparing for publication its two sequels, "White Leather and Flawed Pearls," and "Nine Day's Wonder."

The best thing about being a writer is to have someone read your work, and be touched by it.

I force myself to write a sentence of some kind, any kind. Connect point A to point B, even if it's uninspired rubbish. Pretty soon, hopefully, the scene at hand begins to interest me enough so that I start trimming, rewording rearranging what I've written. I don't write a straight begin-at-the- beginning-go-til-you-come-to-end-then-stop type narrative very often; I write scenes that interest me, and grow them together. This random access style of composition is probably left over from my having started as a playwright.
