Alec Clayton I plan on re-reading books I read in my youth. Faulkner and Hemingway.
Alec Clayton After getting divorced 40 years ago, my ex and our daughter left town, and now I do not know where they are. Searching for and finding a lost daughter would be a great set-up for a novel. Would they reconcile or not? The possibilities are endless.
Alec Clayton I struggle through it.
Alec Clayton Working in my pajamas.
Alec Clayton I am waiting for a final edit on Visual Liberties, the final book in the trilogy that started with The Backside of Nowhere and I am working on a new novel tentatively titled Tupelo set in the town of my birth, Tupelo, Mississippi, where I recently visited for the first time in almost 20 years.
Alec Clayton Since my most recent book, Return to Freedom, is the second in a series, the obvious answer is the idea came from the preceding book, The Backside of Nowhere. I did not have a series in mind when I wrote the first book, and in fact I followed it up with a totally unrelated book, but some of the characters would not leave me alone. In The Backside of Nowhere there was a scene involving a pair of teenage boys looting an electronics store during a flood. These boys did not show up again in later scenes, but I kept imagining what may have happened to them after they grew up, and that became the basis for the sequel. Now I am almost ready to publish the third book in the series.
