I usually get to together with other writer's and we all moan about not writing much or at all. Then I buy a book about writing, maybe an author biography or something related to the topic of my book and that spurns some ideas and gets me back to writing.

Neil Gaiman is one of my favourite writers. He takes the ordinary and sidesteps it a little to the side and you're transported into an altered reality. I wanted to write a mystery about Dartmoor National Park in Devon (I live nearby) and also try to capture a character who's in the throes of despair and take her through it. It also has vampires and I wanted to show them as 'normal' rather than sexy. Plus I love the twists and turns of mystery novel!

It's a crime thriller set in the Florida Keys. I visited a couple of years ago and it's a stunning location that works well for the story.
