J.R. Potter I've had one mind-blowing supernatural encounter in the past ten years involving a ghost standing in our bedroom holding a baby or a doll. Not translucent or glowing, but real as you or me. I had the most intense sadness wash over me when I saw her and found out later after giving the description to my wife that one of her band members a few years earlier at seen the same woman at the top of the stairs! Certainly a mystery, and one that I might need to adapt into a future story. Great question!
J.R. Potter I'm a bit of an Ancient History nut. I love mythology and the idea that trying to understand what happened before written records is basically like exhuming a corpse and trying to learn its language.
J.R. Potter The inspiration finds ME, actually. I dive in at my desk and soon there's ectoplasm and magic spells whizzing all around the room.
J.R. Potter THOMAS CREEPER AND THE PURPLE CORPSE
J.R. Potter Your voice is unrepeatable in the Cosmos. Take your time to let your voice sound through the words. It will enrich the rest of the world immeasurably.
J.R. Potter Research! You get to become a desk researcher with a view of the world. For example, for the sequel to THOMAS CREEPER AND THE GLOOMSBURY SECRET I researched everything from the science of bio luminescence to Roman coinage. The eternal student in me can't get enough of that stage of a novel's development.
J.R. Potter You can't force a magic spell. You'll probably just get some sparks that blow up in your face. Take your time to find the right thread. Exercise. Read what other people are writing. That usually jars a good story loose for me!
J.R. Potter I'll do you one better. Two words:

Death and taxes.
J.R. Potter Probably a bit cliche, but Middle Earth and kick it in a Hobbit hole!
J.R. Potter Two whispery books!

The Whispering Skull by Jonathan Stroud

Warren the 13th and the Whispering Woods by Tania Del Rio and Will Staehle
J.R. Potter Hi, Noah! Again, thank you so very much for spending time with THOMAS CREEPER and taking the time to write a review and give feedback. It would be very easy to say that Thomas is my favorite character. Like a parent, perhaps, it’s wickedly awful to have to choose between your character children. BUT with Thomas as the obvious front-runner, I would say that Jeni is neck-and-neck. Because the novel focuses on Thomas’s world, we don’t get to see the behind-the-scenes with Jeni. Who knows? Maybe I’ll get the chance to do a spin-off series with the incredible Ms. Myers.
