Marjorie King Wow. I call them writing obstacles instead. (Because I can diagnose and overcome obstacles.) But I've found three main sources of writing obstacles: my internal health, my external life, and story tangles in the actual writing.

Each problem has had tons of books written on them, and I've read quite a few to help me. The key is to diagnose which (sometimes more than one!) problem I'm dealing with. Then asking for the right help.

Maybe a little more detail: Writing the story and galaxy that I want to escape to. Just for me.

But then I share it with the world because maybe someone else will enjoy escaping there too. I shouldn't keep it to myself.

Marjorie King The trick for me is remembering my inspiration. I'll be going about my day when a random idea hits, and I think, "That would be cool story fodder." At that point, I have to type it into my phone or jot it onto a scrap of paper. Otherwise, it's gone forever.

Marjorie King Write. A lot. Find a group that can encourage your writing. And then find a group that knowledgeably critique your writing.
