Teri Case Without a doubt, the best thing about being a writer is when a reader says they relate to one of the characters or their perspective has changed thanks to something I've written.
Teri Case Going for a long drive or walk always inspires me to write. A good book by a fellow author certainly gets my creative juices flowing, and an evocative song is sometimes just what I need. Although I did just try to take a nap and had to jump out of bed to write a chapter--this often happens when my mind stills and all is quiet.
Teri Case For TIGER DRIVE, the story idea came to me after looking at pictures of my mom and dad when they were eighteen years old, and I was wondering, when and how did their lives become train wrecks? Obviously, I wasn't looking to write my parents' stories, so I made one up.
Teri Case Whenever I'm feeling blocked, I set a timer for twenty minutes and write crap. I usually keep writing once the timer goes off, but sometimes I manage only the twenty minutes, and that's okay. I don't force it.
Teri Case I'm currently revising my second novel, IN THE DOGHOUSE (I just received the cover design and love it so I'm extra excited today). And I'm writing the craptastic first draft of JUST IMAGINE, IMOGENE, my third novel. I started writing JII over November during the NANO challenge. I posted tidbits of the work in progress on Instagram @terilcase
Teri Case My advice for aspiring writers is to set a timer for twenty minutes each day, sit your butt in the chair, and write anything. I always give myself permission to write a craptastic first draft. If you set a timer for each day, you'll show up and gain momentum and create a habit.
