Cortney Pearson So many things inspire me! The other night my husband was explaining how a hydraulic engine works and BING! The ideas for a scene in my third Stolen Tears book started flowing! It's really anything--reading a book I love and appreciate, watching a great movie, anything!
Cortney Pearson Study lots. Read lots. Write lots. :)
Cortney Pearson The best thing about being a writer is when I write something that has the same effect on ME that I want it to have on my readers. It's one thing to be able to make a reader cry or get chills, but when your own writing creates that reaction in you? Best feeling ever.
Cortney Pearson The idea for Sealed With a Kiss came from a poem called "Goblin Market" by Christina Rosetti where two sisters are lured by goblins to eat their fruit. One sister eats and finds herself unable to function without getting more of the fruit, but unfortunately the goblins are nowhere to be found. She nearly withers away until her sister rescues her, she gets one more taste, and heals.
Cortney Pearson I'm currently doing edits on Sealed With a Kiss, a YA sci fi/fantasy about a girl who kisses a boy not knowing his lips hold venom that will make her literally addicted to him. She not only has to figure out how to break the curse before it takes her life, but also to determine whether what she feels for him is real or just part of a spell.
Cortney Pearson I have a book of prompts, and usually if I free-write based on that day's prompt (even if I feel no inspiration at the time), it ends up transitioning into a new scene for whatever story I'm working on.
