In the attic, standing in front of the Victorian-age full-length mahogany mirror, a gift from her husband, Susan swiped a hand across the mirror's surface, wiping away years of dust. Expecting to see the reflection of an elderly woman, graying and thinning hair, skin sagging and wrinkled, Susan gasped when a hand -- not her own -- stifled the scream, and she saw the image of her late husband, in his twenties, gaping back at her.

I'm six books into the Aaron Hardy series and I've come to a crossroads, trying to decide in which direction I want to take the seventh installment. I decided to take a break and isolate the Special Agent Cruz character and give her her own series. Writing the Special Agent Cruz Crime Dramas has been a fun diversion. Readers of the Aaron Hardy books will enjoy getting to know her better, especially when she becomes more involved in the Hardy series.

I'm reading Hostage Zero from John Gilstrap. He has several books in the Jonathan Grave series, and I'll be working my way through them, in order. It usually takes me a few weeks to read a book. Reading...Writing...it's a balancing act.

I'm currently working on the second book in the Special Agent Cruz series. It will be published this summer.

My advice for aspiring writers...
#1 Write what you know or read. If your subject is something you enjoy, you'll have fun writing about it.
#2 Start small and work your way up to full-length novels. By taking my own advice, I've been able to write and publish 7 books in less than 2 years. My 8th book will be released June 11th and I'm currently writing the 9th book.
#3 Keep writing, keep writing, keep writing. Don't wait for the sales figures to hit a certain number or the reviews to pile up before starting the next book. You want to have several titles for your readers when they finally discover you.
#4 Pray and have faith. If you're meant to be a writer, God will make it happen.

The best part about being a writer is the total freedom to create. I've always enjoyed working with my hands, taking pieces and parts and making something whole. Writing fiction allows me to take words and build characters, making those characters interact with each other to create a scene, a world, a book.
