Dana A. Alexander This is such an ironic question for me, as a writer. The answer? "My childhood" but with a surprisingly good ending!
Dana A. Alexander What a fabulous question! As a fantasy writer, I'm fascinated by the language Tolkien created for the elves of Middle Earth and the level of detail involved in his world-building. I'd have to go visit with the elves, of course, learn their spells and experience the higher level thinking and beliefs they held. ;)
Dana A. Alexander Read what you love and read again for the love of how it's written, i.e., what made you melt, shout, cry after a sentence?
Dana A. Alexander Jamie and Claire Fraser from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, before it became a Starz t.v series. Like many readers of fiction, I fell in love with the writing that quite literally brought the characters off the page and to life. The historical elements blended with the unlikely meeting and love of two from a different time is fabulous. The writing of Ms. Gabaldon and her impeccable attention to the details of this couple and the many experiences they share are so realistic that it not only inspired me as a writer but showed me what I love about beautifully crafted sentences and what makes for enjoyable reading.
Dana A. Alexander The ability to create interesting worlds and characters with depth I hope people will love as much as I do, and a premise that makes one wonder if it could be real.
Dana A. Alexander It may sound odd, but meditation often clears my mind to let creativity flow when I'm blocked.
Dana A. Alexander The most recent book is part of The Three Keys series. The series idea began not unlike many authors, with a dream. But that particular dream, while interesting and a bit unusual, was not something I ever intended to write. Everyone has unusual dreams here and there, right? So, I tried to put it out of my head. Over the span of a month or so, dialogue and scenes began stemming from it, so much in fact, that I had no choice but to write it just to get the story line, scenes, and dialogue to stop. That was the intention; write a chapter and be done. One chapter turned into thirty-one. One book turned into four, with a fifth in the works.

In putting that idea onto my hard-drive simply to stop the flood of information, my life took a turn I never expected; I decided that idea and its associated scenes should be something readers could really enjoy. And so began a path to developing and honing the skills to create, engage, and delve into a world I had so much to learn from and where others have paved the way far ahead of me.
