Find a VERY good editor. There are lots of ways to spend your money when you're writing. The best investment you'll make is in a terrific content editor. I have that, and I wouldn't consider doing anything without her help. I also have proofing editor who cleans things up before publication. Also, speak in your own voice. Writing has become freer, less constrictive. Be you!

Everything is the best thing. I didn't start writing until I was 59. I'd been busy raising a family, making money to pay bills, etc. Writing was always what I wanted to do - but I thought it would be reporting, which is what I got my degree in. But, I started blogging and things just took off from there. Knowing that your putting yourself on the line each time something goes out can be intimidating, but it can also be the best thing ever.

I just step away. I can step away for weeks at a time, which flies in the face of other authors who write every day. It usually means the story is convoluted in my mind, so until I'm able to clear what's bothering me about it, I don't even try. I'd just have to go back and rip it out.
