I used to put whatever I was working on away until 'inspiration' hit, but now I have a better tactic. When I'm feeling stuck, I'll move on to a different plot point, and work through that scene. Keeping my thoughts flowing in a different part of my book has helped me to maintain my connection with the characters, and still work through whatever it was that was blocking me. It's a subconscious thing I guess, but it's working for me right now!
