Puja Guha I wouldn't say that publishing my first book is what changed my writing process. Over the course of getting that first book edited and out, I had to do a lot of reflecting on the process that worked best for me for writing and revisions. I finally got to what works really well which is to write 2000 words a day, 5 days a week, and quickly get to a first draft. When I first started, I used to skip outlining all together, but now for my fourth book, I did try a high level outline, which I think was quite helpful. I'll probably continue doing that, but I'm sure that my writing process will continue to evolve over time!
Puja Guha Most of my inspiration comes from just sitting down in front of my computer. When I get in the zone to write, the words tend to flow. Other inspiration comes from my travels and random moments with people.
Puja Guha Since I published my first book in June, a number of people have asked me about how I handle writer’s block. The answer is simple. Writer’s block may be a phenomenon that is only associated with the writing community. In reality, it’s something that each and every person grapples with, often on a daily basis. To put things simply, writer’s block is a form of procrastination. I deal with it by trying not to give it power - every day during the work week I set a target for the minimum amount I need to write in number of words. On a hectic day that minimum is 600-700 words, but on a regular one that minimum is 1800-2000 words. No matter how much I want to procrastinate, I push past it by making sure that I reach that target. I often end up writing more, but setting the minimum makes sure that I move the story along.
Puja Guha I'm currently working on Book 2 of THE AHRIMAN LEGACY (the sequel to AHRIMAN: THE SPIRIT OF DESTRUCTION). The first part of the book is set in Paris and I am loving writing it although I am jealous of my lead characters for getting to live there. The new book doesn't have a title yet, but I'll figure that out soon.
Puja Guha I was visiting family in Kuwait when I was reminded of some nuances about the Kuwaiti political system. That reminder gave me the idea for AHRIMAN: THE SPIRIT OF DESTRUCTION and so, my first book was born.
