My most recent finished and published story started with real life situations my past students and counseling clients told me about. Within the first chapter, my mind morphed it into a Vampire story. It's now the In the Night Series. Sometimes a story takes itself to a place the author didn't initially plan.

Just keep writing! Even if the idea isn't fully developed, write what is in your mind. I recently started two different books and then decided the story would work better if they were one. It took some modifications, but the writing of it is now rolling along well.
