Shaye Marlow This is gonna sound awful, but I had a hero (Zack) who was physically super-tough, and so I knew I had to push him to the limits of his endurance, expose him to his fears, all that good stuff. And it seemed to me I had two options: Set him up with someone just as wild and crazy as he was... or hand him over to someone that would tame him completely. And, well, where's the fun in THAT?
Shaye Marlow Most of my inspiration comes when trying to sleep or in the shower. Also, when I'm talking to somebody, sometimes my eyes'll unfocus and I'll suddenly run away to write something down. Brainstorming also works hella good, just jotting things down--even bad things--until I come up with some that I'm excited about. But when it comes to actually sitting down at the computer and WRITING, I just gotta force myself to do it. Set a daily word count goal and then meet it, one day after another.
Shaye Marlow Just do it. If you want to be a writer, start writing and don't stop. Finish things. It's a process, and (supposedly) the more you do it, the better you get.
Shaye Marlow Working in my underwear. I also enjoy making people laugh, so there's that.
Shaye Marlow I suffer. I write anyway. I mull and brainstorm, and try to figure out what the problem is. I read books on writing, or make an outline or a timeline.
