Karl Bort As a psych nurse I had a patient who was addicted to video games and the mind altering drug ketamine, which is sold on the streets as "bathsalts". He was admitted many times and while being treated he was able to "close his eyes" and transform his brain into telling him he was "inside the game". It was so weird watching him play his imaginary video games. I thought, "why not take this real story" and write it into our book. It is promising and we like it better than "Bad JuJu in Cleveland", our last book on amazon.com.
Karl Bort I was a Cleveland cop for 27 years and a psych nurse for 5 years at the Cleveland Clinic. "Enough said" I have material for "many" books!
Karl Bort Thekla and I are well into our next work that has our Detective, Nick Silvano and his Psych Doctor girlfriend, Kat, working together to solve a double murder. We have a working title of "Angry Nurse" but that will probably change. We have a psych nurse orchestrating the killings using a "unwitting patient" who is addicted to mind altering drugs and video games. Imagine a killer who thinks his murders are the result of "playing a video game in his mind"! Really neat!
Karl Bort It takes "sooo long" to get it right. You think it is complete and when you review what you wrote another idea sprouts into yhour head and you are right back doing another 're-write!" At some point you have to stop and publish. Even then you see where it could have been "a little bit better" but it has to end sometime!
Karl Bort For me, the best thing about being a writer is that I can tell the "unusual' true tales of being a cop in a big city incorporated into the story line of the book. I get to work with my co-author, Thekla Madsen, who brings her perspective and expertise into my stories and with her organizational skills, we combine these qualities to write a book that our readers really like.
Karl Bort I really have not experienced any "writers block". I may have some periods of "what is coming next?" but I just step away and withnin a few days it justs comes into my head!
