I write through it sometimes, even if it means writing absolute rubbish. Other times, I do something to inspire me, like reading or watching a fantasy series that I enjoy. It depends on the situation. But when writing is such a huge part of your life, getting writer's block doesn't really happen as much, because it's a necessity and you'll write whether you know what you're doing or not.

The escapism. It's beautiful. Knowing you can pour your feelings into a thing of beauty is the most incredible feeling. Trying to find the right words to describe something is an adventure in itself. It's also pretty cool when your characters become so real to you that they start leading their own stories and talking for themselves - THAT is when you know that your writing is a true part of you.

Write. Write. Write again. Every day. When you start out like I did 6 years ago, you wonder how you'll ever get the hang of it. But, over time, you get better and better until you reach a stage where you start to feel comfortable in your ability. Apart from that, use the senses when writing - don't just observe, but hear, smell, feel and taste too. Show, don't tell is an age old tip which never loses its appeal; trust the intelligence of your reader and do NOT patronise them.

This and that! I'm planning my next poetry book which I'm aiming to release in 2015, as well as an urban fantasy novel that I've been working on since I was 13 but never been able to finish. Basically, I work on whatever suits me at the time. There's no point in restricting creativity if it calls to be somewhere else!

There's no single way of getting inspired, and different things work for different projects. Events, observations when doing random ordinary things like sitting on the bus, different words or images that interest me, wanting to portray a certain message - the list goes on. For me, getting inspired to write is very easy, because writing is an integral part of my daily routine, without which any given day is not complete. The ability to lose myself in another world and paint images with words has intrigued me for many years now.

I got the idea to put my poems into a book late last year after a very difficult time in my life. I came to the realisation that if I wanted to achieve my dreams of being a writer, I had to reach out there and take the opportunities myself, or nothing would ever happen. Poetry has been a big part of my life through the last year in expressing my complicated emotions, opinions and ideas. Not only that, but my poems have been the first pieces that I've genuinely felt proud of. For these reasons, it seemed only fitting that my first book would consist of poems.
