People who do not know Jesus may not understand this, but I received the main plot for my book from God, initially through a dream. As I began writing the story, He also helped me through some of the meatiest sections as well.

I had long dreamed of being published by one of the traditional publishing houses. But, unless you have a literary agent, know someone in the business, or are already a celebrity, it's extremely difficult to get a manuscript published. If that's your dream, then go for it. But don't be afraid to explore other options, such as indie publishing.

I get to process how I view life. For example, on our first autumn trip to the Smoky Mountain National Park as a family (my favorite place), I was struck by the vibrant colors of the mountains. My heart was so full of the emotion I felt when faced with the sheer beauty of God's perfect creation that there was no other way to express myself than through writing. Where I couldn't speak, my heart could write.

When struggling with writer's block, I shut down the computer and walk away for awhile. Sometimes, doing something else helps to clear my mind.
