Ant Richards Literally, in a dream. I was dreaming I was in a queue waiting to board a flight home and Mr Wong (that wasn't his name in the dream, that, I added later) approached me and, well, it all went from there after I woke up.

Ant Richards Write, write, and just keep on writing! Read, read, read and don't stick to one genre, be diverse.
I once read from another author 'write drunk, edit sober'. That is one of the best pieces of advice I've read, but do you know what? Treat it metaphorically and you'll get the true meaning of that quote.
Mistakes will be made down the line, but you learn from them, and it only helps tp improve your writing. Be prepared to be critizised; it is a chance to later on prove them wrong and have the final laugh. But more improtantly, keep writing.
Ant Richards Where possible I go for a walk, anywhere, just walk; not in a Forrest Gump way, but so as to clear my head. In addition, I free myself of any kind of distracting gadgets - mainly mobile phones.
On other occasions, I put finger to keyboard and just write whatever comes to mind. Mind you, some of my short stories came about that way.
