Elizabeth Hamlin My first novel started to flow after I went back to Millers Point where I lived for a couple of years when young. My second novel that I've recently started writing began with me wondering what happened to a person I used to know.
Elizabeth Hamlin Reading fiction and fact, watching films, TV, how-to-write books - any of these things can start me off. A writing exercise or group can also help. I wrote my play after someone gave me two words to use in a writing exercise. I wrote my first novel after being given a short exercise to do in another writing group.
Elizabeth Hamlin I've started making notes for my second novel. Too early to say how it will turn out.
Elizabeth Hamlin Don't give up your day job. Do read how-tp-write books. Don't feel bad if you can't compete with writers who don't have jobs. Just do your best to include writing in your life. Being a hobby writer is fine. Every writer starts as a hobby writer. You can write a novel in only a few hours a week. Sure it will take ages but you're being entertained while you're writing it and it's keeping your skills alive and hopefully growing them. Don't panic if success is slow. Do consider self-publishing if you think your work is worth reading.
Elizabeth Hamlin Being able to do your own thing in a way that entertains readers.
Elizabeth Hamlin I read novels, books about writing, writing skills items on the net and jot down any thoughts that could lead to a novel.
