The idea for "Beast and Beauty" came from my favorite fairy tale--of course--but also from this habit I have of asking, "What is the most unexpected thing that could happen?"
In this case, the unexpected thing would be for Beauty to be the one who'd cursed the Beast in the first place. How could that possibly happen? What events would lead up to that, and how would that affect their relationship throughout the story? It piqued my curiosity so much that I had to write the book to figure it out.
