I take the 'grumpy bull in a china shop' approach. In other words, I simply don't give up. When I'm stuck I just keep battering away at the problem until I get through it. This can be fairly miserable (understatement), but I feel the ongoing struggle forces my subconscious to keep working away in the background and come up with the answer in the end. This 'technique' has worked on several grim occasions, which gives me the confidence to use it the next time. Incidentally, my main 'blocks' always are to do with plot points, e.g. making sure a character would be motivated to act as I want them to. Many the hour I have spent staring wretchedly into space, surrounded by dozens of crumpled-up pieces of paper ... :-)

I'm currently working on book two in The Sign of One trilogy ... called Into The No-Zone. I've just sent in the first draft and should be hearing back from my editor, Stella Paskins at Egmont, soon. Exciting!
