Don't give up. As readers, we know we don't all enjoy every book we read. Enjoy writing what you like to read and there'll be people out there who like it too.
Join some writing organisations, read widely in the genre you wish to write in, enter some writing contests to get feedback - but don't take it to heart if you have some judges who are extremely negative.
I finalled in a a very prestigious contest once in Australia, and one of the judges of the same story in a different contest gave it 38%!! Thankfully, I didn't let it get me down!
Finish the book then send it out there to editors. Don't get caught in the trap of editing and re-editing and re-editing for years. Get it out there! Let it fly!

I'm not sure there is a best thing - just lots of fabulous things!
I already work from home in my day job as a Speech Pathologist in private practice, so that isn't anything new to me.
I really just love being creative, letting my imagination run, developing characters and - the most gratifying thing - is having readers contact me saying they've enjoyed something I've written.

I'm working on the next story in the planned trilogy. It is Sir Richard's story and will be titled: "Knight of Her Dreams".

Knight of Her Heart is the first historical romance I have written. (I write contemporary romances for Escape Publishing, Harlequin Australia, and also as an indie author, under the name Alyssa J. Montgomery).
The idea came to me while I was travelling around Europe with my family. The plot line I hatched - the heroine's conflict and actions - certainly didn't suit a contemporary romance, so I decided to base the story in medieval times. As I toured around castles, I was researching as well!
