I really enjoy the process of creating characters. Thinking about their likes and dislikes and how they interact with other characters. They drive the whole novel for me.

It isn't something I suffered with very much writing my first novel (thank goodness). There were times when I left sections and came back to them later, e.g. some of the sex scenes!

I find I am always able to write, but my environment has a lot to do with my output! At home I find there are way too many distractions for me to focus for long periods of time. It's often not the first thing I want to do when I get home, having spent the day looking at a computer screen at work.
When I took a career break it was easy to spend a few hours most days writing.
I also take myself away to the seaside where my parents have a place without internet connection. Weekends down there really helps me focus.

I spent a lot of time reading advice about how best to write, and so much of it was contradictory in the end I thought 'To hell with it!' and just started writing! However doing some planning would have really helped me save time (particularly in the second draft).
So outline plan you characters and how they relate to each other. And also outline plan the story before you get started. It will save you a lot of time later on!

(view spoiler)[I'm currently working on a follow up to 30 B4 30? I didn't want the novel to finish with a predictable ending as I don't think life is like that for most people. I wanted my heroine to have choices at the end of the novel, not run off into the sunset with Prince Charming. So it did make the book ripe for a sequel, although I think it works also as a stand alone novel. The sequel will pick up where we left C, just after her 30th birthday...I have a working title, but won't share it yet, in case it changes! (hide spoiler)]

I originally thought about 30 B4 30? as an idea for a blog, about 8 years ago. I had read a couple of chick lit books on holiday and didn't think they particularly spoke to me. I wanted to create a novel that was light, sexy and funny, but hopefully wasn't too predictable.
The idea was that it would be a good weekly series, with me writing a chapter a week. However life and a full time job meant it was just too difficult for me to commit to at the time. But I didn't forget the idea, and came back to it when I had a career break in 2012-13.
