Ian Oliver Apart from the day job? Two things interest me regarding the area of privacy at the moment, the first is the human factors (read James Reason's work!) in privacy and especially at the engineering level. The second might be with colleagues from the University of Brighton and involve privacy, ontologies, Semantic Web and category theory....that latter one is NOT going to be the next Harry Potter novel :-)
Ian Oliver Necessity really. I wanted to write for the software engineers who need to build privacy into their systems. The area is full of books on legal aspects but very, very few tackling the issues that developers face. I wanted to give them tool and techniques that worked for me.
Ian Oliver Get a dog, go for a walk :-)
Ian Oliver Don't start at the beginning, but just start. Read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and understand what Pirsig tells about quality. Above all, just write, write and write. Edit and typeset later and get people to read what you've written. But, always remember that you are writing your book.

If you get doubts about your writing, ignore them, these are your thoughts and ideas, just go ahead and write.
