Nick van der Leek When she told me about herself, her self-disclosures set the hairs on my neck on end. Curious, I asked her more questions.
Nick van der Leek Daniel Kahneman - Thinking, Fast and Slow
Nick van der Leek Thanks Gayle. Looks like another book is coming out with a psychological perspective. I wonder if there will be a single reference to my research [?].
Nick van der Leek Hi Cecilia, are you on Twitter? Please get in touch either @HiRezLife or my Facebook page True Crime Rocket Science. Thanks.
Nick van der Leek Probably the Bible. Assuming I could travel through the ages, I'd take photos of creation, and interview Caesar, Pilate, Jesus and Mary Magdalene. I'd probably also give them a map and a list of instructions warning them of things to come - like the Dark Ages, Pandemic Flu and traffic jams. And I'd make time to find a lonely beach and enjoy the temporary emptiness of world.
Nick van der Leek Hi Susan. Only seeing this now, so not sure if you ever got your question answered to your satisfaction. Yes each book deals with a different area, the first series deals with the circumstances prior to Christmas, and each book in The Craven Silence peels the layer further. The Day After Christmas deals with the circumstances and issues after Christmas, and again, each book digs deeper than the previous one. The Sequin Star books are a more global look at the time frame, going from hours and weeks, to months and years. Hope this helps.
Nick van der Leek I believe on Twitter - a friend made a suggestion...
Nick van der Leek Reading inspires me. Great stories also inspire me - and I'm driven to find them, uncover what's hidden, get to the insights and render all of it clearly and effectively.
Nick van der Leek Unusually I'm researching four books at the same time, although they will be written and published in a staggered fashion. The most interesting is SICKOS, dealing with a "Ken and Barbie" couple in Canada. Those crimes, in my view, are the most heinous and disturbing to date. I'm looking forward to writing less about human destructiveness, and more about how we can build our bodies, minds and societies. But that's coming later in the year and in 2017.
Nick van der Leek Write fast. If you can't get your narrative down in less than half a year, you'll probably lose interest and momentum, that's if you ever finish it. Create the space to get your book done in 3-6 months.
Nick van der Leek I can't speak for all writers, but what I do is very fulfilling. When one is writing about true crime, especially real injustice in the real world, it's gratifying when the parents of a victim want to talk to you to find answers to deep personal questions. There is justice in the court of public opinion, and sometimes justice delayed is nevertheless a kind of justice. Many top achievers work their entire life only to write books about their legacies at the very end. The best thing about being a writer is to be conscious about the legacies of others, and yourself, and that exposure I think makes us all better people.
Nick van der Leek I don't suffer from writer's block, although I do sometimes feel stale, either due to sleep deprivation or fatigue. For me a good way to get back into the flow of writing is through exercise and catching up on sleep. Just being away from the keyboard and out of the sitting position and getting into nature - even by going for a run - is a great refresher for the body and mind.
