Out of the Blue came from the many questions people asked me about how was dealing with my late husband's death at the World Trade Center. I wanted people to know the truth about who he was as a father and a husband. In the process, I learned who I was.

Initially, I was bothered by the media's portrayal of 9/11. I felt it was desensitizing people to what had really happened. People lost spouses, children, siblings, friends, co-workers. We are all connected as human beings. I wanted the truth of the grieving process and the healing process. I tried to show what my life was like and how I felt with the hope that others would do the same. Together, we would create a foundation for learning, loving, and gratitude for our lives. Being in the present moment inspires me to write every day.

Building on Out of the Blue, I'm passionate about my mission, which is, educating people about the process of grief and healing. We all possess more potential than we realize as individuals. More important, we've lost our connection around community and what community brings to healing. My dream, and vision for my next two books, is to bring back and foster families supported by communities.

I'm a big fan of Julia Cameron's Artist's Way. I do morning pages faithfully. Writing them by hand gives me the opportunity to connect with my emotions. An important part of the healing process is making that connection with what feels real. Sometimes, it's hard, but when I start writing, it starts flowing.
