Frank O. Smith Dream Singer grew out of two magazine feature stories I wrote about riding freights - one about crossing the continent, and the other about traveling through the Pacific Northwest. I meant a tramp on the second trip who told me a story . . . and it served as the springboard to Dream Singer.
