J.E. Thompson I wondered two things. If we evolved from apes, why are there still apes? And, if apes evolved into humans, why haven't any more evolved? I mean I know it's a long process, but you'd think some of them would have been working on it for a few million years and be ready to evolve by now.
J.E. Thompson Sometimes I close my eyes and listen to my characters, then write what they say/do. Sometimes I just start to write, anything including, "I have nothing to write about." But I keep at it until real writing begins to gel in my head, then I'm on my way for that writing period. The next day it starts all over. I won't mention the banging my head on the desk or tossing paper wads into the trash can or pacing because nothing is coming to me after working for half an hour to come up with what to write.
J.E. Thompson RETALIATION, Book 2 in my Almost Human series, and an anthology of light hearted horror stories for teens, and a detective novel.
J.E. Thompson Read widely and study the methods of authors of books in the genre you want to write. And as you learn how other authors create the effects that affect you the most, write, and write, and write, and finesse your writing until it evokes in you the reaction those authors you admire can create.
J.E. Thompson There are many for me. Being able to work when my mind functions best, or at its most creative. Even if that means a waking moment at 2am or a pop of inspiration while I'm driving. Seeing my story go from an idea to a short story or book, and my characters go from a glimmer to walking talking imaginary beings interacting with the world around them.
J.E. Thompson I have two methods. I copy excerpts either from some of my own finished work or from the books of authors I admire to get my mind in a writing mood, or I go out and talk to my chickens, as long as they aren't in bed.
