I've always loved stories about people making do in primitive circumstances, like Robinson Crusoe, but Robinson drove me nuts too: He's on a beautiful island and he notices nothing not immediate to his survival; he's desperately lonely, but when another person comes along, Robinson makes a slave of him. I thought it could be done differently, so I wrote version version with a woman as the main character and an alternate outcome.
