Katherine Locke Hi! I'm sorry for such a delay! Some observant Jews, like Ellie, do not write out the name of God. Hence the hyphen in her POV.

Katherine Locke Hi Kellyjo! Thank you for your question. I like the ending of THE GIRL WITH THE RED BALLOON where it is, so I'm not going to continue it. But if you remember the last chapter, I would highly recommend you go read the first chapter again. There's an easter egg in there for those readers who need it. :)

Katherine Locke Hi! Thank you so much for asking. The Balloonmakers will not be a trilogy. This is a complete duology. I hope to write more historical fiction with speculative/fantastical elements in the future, though!

Do you get a lot of fan-art? What is your attitude towards it?

Katherine Locke I love fan art :) And if people make it, please tag me! I'd love to see it. And my opinion of fan art is that I'm glad that people love something enough to make art of it, to interpret it in their own way, and share it. That's awesome.

Did you consult with an amputee to accurately portray Zed, his feelings and the facts of his everyday life? "I used to move gracefully. I used to know the word grace to the center of my bones. Now I seek it every day and fall short, inevitably, every day. I lost grace."

Katherine Locke I did! I spoke with someone who is an above-the-knee left leg amputee (different cause) for both Second Position and Finding Center. I think a lot of Zed's frustration with movement has to do with his mental state of being, that losing the ability to do ballet like he used to do was losing a part of his identity. That's his journey in Finding Center.

Is Girl With the Red Balloon a stand alone book?

Katherine Locke It is a standalone book. There may or may not be other books in the same world (in terms of magic) but they will not have overlapping characters or take place in Berlin.
