For me personally, the idea can come quickly, but getting it from my head and into a novel can be a long process. Getting the first draft finished is usually only the halfway point. The real time consuming and difficult part is the redrafts and editing to get it right?
I'm aiming for about 4/5 months from idea to published on my forthcoming novels, but if it takes longer than that, I'm going to try and not lose any sleep over it.

It's been rattling around in my head for years. When I worked in London, and spent large amounts of time traveling on the underground, I used to ponder on whether their could be anything strange living down there. I find the London Underground is full of potential mystery.

Taking all those mad thoughts and turning them into something. Also the freedom to work to my own timescales - getting out of the 9-5, and often working 5-9.

I tend to walk away from the writing for a bit, listen to music and read other books - always a source of inspiration and education.
