Dennis Whitehead For me, very little. Some time ago I wanted to author my last piece, a t-shirt reading, "Writing Sucks!"

But, writing is something you are driven to do. In my case, it's nonfiction and I love telling stories. The joy comes in digging for information, building stories, and then weaving them together into a narrative.

On top of the t-shirt, I also hate the marketing. I'm a rather private person with lousy public speaking skills, but if I want this book to reach readers, as I vey much do, then time must be spent preparing and executing public presentations.

In the end, I'm confident the presentation will go well. In fact, I'm pretty confident about the presentation I have in mind. And, that's where my scriptwriting skills will come into play. A whole different beast.
Dennis Whitehead As much as I want to get started on another book, I am bogged down getting the current book, Love and Sacrifice, visible and in good market position, and I'm only beginning.

I've massaged searches to point to the current edition (this is a second) and followed every lead on faulty results.

I have the book listed in all the right places, in both print and ebook.

Next up is preparing a book talk, and arrange a presentation time at the local library and a local bookstore.

Then, I hope, to begin work on a different kind of nonfiction story - a true crime tale.
Dennis Whitehead Once you have finished writing the journey is just beginning.

#1 - pay careful attention to your edit. You should run your copy through different spellchecks. Yes, different ones pick up different things. It's not easy but find someone to read your copy before it goes to press.

As you approach the press, make certain everything is in place. I still do not have a firm understanding of ISBNs but be VERY CAREFUL about throwing them around. They can come back to haunt you in a thicket of editions through which search engines have a difficult time finding your target. You don't have to assign an ISBN number for an ebook, unless you are specifically asked for one.

Then comes the marketing...
Dennis Whitehead The Day Before the War comes from research I did for a magazine piece several years ago. With the 75th anniversary of the start of the Second World War in Europe upon us, I thought the time was right to expand the story.
