I've had a passion for holding up human trafficking to the light of day for years. When I was pondering subjects for the series, I knew this was going to be a topic eventually. This book looks at the subject from several angles, but with a light touch (I hope.) While the series isn't primarily about humor, that's certainly an aspect of each book. The hard part is knowing when to inject humor, and when to let the topic just be.

Music, being around other writers and listening to their enthusiasm about writing, and talking about writing to others. These really get my engines going!

I've got book three of the Nate "Nasty" Jepson Mystery series in the works, as well as a couple of YA novels. One is an urban fantasy, and the other is more general lit.

Keep writing and keep reading! Seek out classes or workshops from experienced writers. Listen to feedback, and develop your own voice. Don't try to emulate someone else, that rarely works.
I sometimes see new writers not being open to constructive criticism from their peers regarding ways to make their stories even better. While too much input can be overwhelming, not enough can often result in a writer making the same mistakes over and over again, with little-to-no growth. Find a helpful community of writers to help you on your journey, and be willing to listen to them.

Hmmm... I tend to write in a different mode. Short poetry, Q/A interview with a character (either one of mine or someone else's,) or I'll take on a freelance job with our local weekly news magazine. Something else that works for me is teaching others. When other writers are excited to write, and I'm teaching them some aspect of the craft, I tend to catch the writing bug, as well!
