Maureen Fisher Some call it a whiffle-ball It's made of hollow plastic with cut-out holes in it. It's not a bouncy as a tennis ball.
Maureen Fisher I'm an indie author, so I'm in full control of what I write, where I write, and when I write. I have no deadlines to meet and no editor to please (of course I hire one).
For me, this represents freedom to be creative on my own terms.
For example, I sprinkle my books with my (somewhat) earthy sense of humor.
Maureen Fisher I'm happy to answer this question, but about its predecessor: HORSING AROUND WITH MURDER (A Senior Sleuth Mystery - Book 1).

Like me, my critique partner has an inappropriate sense of humor. We were brainstorming ideas and concepts for a funny cozy mystery. About mid-session, she recounted an incident when she was a veterinarian's assistant assisting in an equine artificial insemination process which requires the collection of a specimen. During the procedure, she managed to lose her grip on the stallion's pride and joy, allowing it to get
wedged up her sleeve. This was the trigger for the book.

In the story, my heroine's dude ranch is in financial difficulty. To increase business, she and her sisters decide to host a week-long horse breeding symposium intended to increase their popularity and attract more guests.

I'm told the semen collection scene is worth the price of admission.
Maureen Fisher Learn the craft!!!!! Join a writer's group, attend workshops, read about the big 3 (Goal, Motive, and Conflict). If possible, find a more experienced author as a critique and brainstorming partner.
Maureen Fisher I'm recovering from writing and publishing DEADLY THANKSGIVING (A Senior Sleuth Mystery - Book 2). My next book will feature Dodie, the third and middle Foster sister, the family's geriatric wild child. I'll be getting together with my brainstorming partner to nail the murder she'll be dealing with in the book.
Maureen Fisher I never knew my father. My mother divorced him when I was 9 months old. Decades later, I learned he'd moved to Australia, had received the Order of the British Empire for his work during WW II, had died in a car crash a block from home.
