This is always a tough question for me. I think I'm probably influenced by everything I read on some level. That said, I love Ellen Gilchrist and Ellen Douglas. Also, Willie Morris and John Dufresne. I will read everything Margaret Atwood writes. Ditto for Alice Munro. Lately, I've been crazy for Ann Patchett.

Terry, I'm working on another novel. It deals with the slippery nature of memory. It's still too early in the process for me to talk about the plot or characters, because I'm still discovering new things myself.
