Margaret Frisch Klein I am a rabbi. People expect me to get inspired. To be inspired. To inspire others. Inspired comes from the Latin and it has to do with breath and soul. For me in order to be inspired, I have to take a breath. A deep breath. Slow down long enough to be inspired, to feel inspired. I do that best when I am hiking in some beautiful place--up a mountain or along a shore, when I am driving on an open road and have the chance to reflect and think, when I paint (not well) or look at other people's art, or sometimes when I lead davvening (prayer) and let the words wash over me.
Margaret Frisch Klein The initial idea came from my Bat Mitzvah Torah portion which talks about the Thirteen Attributes of the Divine. I refined the thinking over many years. It was part of my rabbinic thesis and then added unto by 20 different voices and their unique thoughts about this same text. Other inspirations along the way include Rabbi Kerry Olitzky and Rabbi Dov Peretz Elkins each of whom wrote books to help individuals prepare for the High Holidays.
Margaret Frisch Klein I always have a writing project going. Right now I am working on a project about peace. I am also working on a book about using the Jewish year cycle as a tool for hope and healing from domestic violence.
