How do you deal with writer’s block?
Shawn Thornton I tend to walk away for a long block of time. Sometimes I go for a walk or take a drive. Getting away from sitting in front of the computer helps ideas and thought to flow freely. During the writing of my memoir, All But Normal, I often had to put the project aside for weeks or months. It was hard to see my story on printed page for the world to see. Giving myself space to breath, think, dream, and pray has been the key to dealing with writer's block!

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Shawn Thornton The personal process of organizing my thoughts. Whether anyone ever read my memoir, other future books, my blog posts, or articles I write, being a writer helps hone my own perspectives and thoughts in such a way that they will spill over into all areas of my life and ministry.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Shawn Thornton Write what you feel a sense of urgency to write whether it is ever published or not. Just the process itself has been a healthy part of my life journey.

What are you currently working on?
Shawn Thornton I am currently working on a follow up book to my memoir (All But Normal). While my memoir does not directly include teaching and help for other in their journey, my new project does just that. One of the working titles for the new project is: "Wounded for God: Letting God Redeem the Brokenness of Your Past." In this book I will share what I learned from writing my own story and how what I learned can help others see God redeem their own brokenness.

How do you get inspired to write?
Shawn Thornton Knowing that my voice, my story, my experience can help others in their journey inspires me to write.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Shawn Thornton After hearing my childhood story at a Joni and Friends ministry event, both Joni and Max Lucado insisted I write my story. So, God connected me with a very talented co-writer, Joel Kilpatrick, and All But Normal was birthed!
