You've probably read Shirley Jackson,but if not, I strongly suggest "The Haunting of Hill House", "The Sundial" and (especially) "We Have Always Lived in the Castle". Also try Susan Hill's "The Woman in Black" or Peter Straub's "Ghost Story" or "Shadowland.

The campsite featured in Ash is based on an actual campsite I visited many times as a child. The overall plot was inspired by the horror novels of the 80's and 90's that I grew up reading,and loving.
