Ireland Gill Lol! Sorry, Larry. I didn't see this question from a year ago until now. But, at this time I believe you have BOTH books I'm your possession, so yay!!! I have to learn how to manage my Goodreads page. Whoops!
Ireland Gill I knew this question would pop up sooner or later after publication, and honestly, I can't exactly remember where the idea for NZ came from. My husband would tell you that he came up with Evika's name, and I will give him that. He was helpful when this idea first sparked. NZ was in development for such a long time and had become so many things as it morphed from a graphic comic idea to a full-fledged book series. In the comic idea, Hayden was an angel that turned into a talking alley rat with an eye patch. Evika's character would walk around with him in her backpack and fight off demons among the seedy city streets in the middle of the night. There was much more to it than that, but I am very glad it has blossomed into what it is now.
Ireland Gill I am currently working on Absolute Zero, book 2 of the Negative Zero series. It is fully written but still needs final draft, editing, more editing,.....and even more editing before it can be out there in the public eye. I hope to have it geared up and ready to go on the 1 year anniversary of the publication of book 1. I will also be working on the next 3 books of the series as well. Lots of writing to do!
Ireland Gill Negative Zero was an off and on project for over 10 years. It may have taken much less time, had I focused more on it after I decided to make it a book. I believe my problem was my confidence level. I encourage anyone who wishes to write a book to JUST DO IT. Write it. Do your research on things you don't know and apply that knowledge to your work. Keep writing. Talk to others about your idea and see if their reaction helps spark more creativity and ambition inside of you. Find your muse and never let it go. Just keep writing.
Ireland Gill Simple. Being able to create characters who readers can connect with so deeply that they almost become real.
Ireland Gill I've read many articles from writers who believe in writer's block and others who think it is an excuse and that it doesn't really exist. I am one who believes it DOES exist. You can have those "blocks," yes...they are terrible. If I've set time aside to write and I have a block, I use music to help me through it. If that doesn't work, I walk away for a while (plenty to keep me occupied - 3 kids). Most of the time, I'm lucky because I like to wait for something I call the "writer's bolt." I can be anywhere (driving, walking in a grocery store, working at my day job) and I'll get hit with a fabulous idea that is like the eureka moment. Once I'm home, it gets written down. I was just "struck by lightening," so-to-speak. THOSE are the moments that a writer needs to embrace.
Ireland Gill As a child, I read so many books and watched so many movies that it was impossible to stop my mind from creating my own characters and ideas. Once I hit middle school, and especially high school, I had countless journals filled with poems, stories and prose that helped me get through a lot of things. Eventually, music became a huge muse to my writing and then, there was no turning back. I was a writer.
