Hope McCardy This summer I read, The Antelope in the Living Room by Melanie Shankle. I found it light, real, and funny - concerning life and living.
I also read Be Yourself by Jahn Mason. This little book was chock-full of encouraging gold nuggets inspiring us to live God-centered lives. The daily readings were short but rich.
I was so blessed by Os Hillman's book, The Joseph Calling, as it relates to us in a deep way when we face life's harsh challenges. It suggests that our trials make us strong and propel us to accomplish great things in our lives. I go back to this book whenever I meet up to a stumbling block.
Hope McCardy At age eight the daunting, angry ocean waves viciously plunged me under ...never to resurface again, it thought. But God, just moments before passing out, I felt the firm hands of an older sister gallantly heave me to the surface and swiftly usher me to the safety of the shore.
Hope McCardy Fred and Wilma Flintstone, because they remind me of childhood.
Hope McCardy I wasn’t thinking about writing a book when this project first began. I was just inspired to pray through the scriptures chronologically for my family by something I read in author Mark Batterson’s book, Praying Circles Around Your Children. As a wife and mother, many times I feel totally at a lost as to how to handle the things my family may be going through and so I try to seek God’s proactive guidance… hence I have often prayed through the scriptures.

It so happened that my church offers a Lamplighter Program which encourages us to read through the Bible in a year, and I am an active participant in that program. I began to record passages that jumped out at me for my family and adapted those scriptures into prayers. My husband and I prayed through the selected New Testament scripture prayers and then I proceeded to make copies for my grown children. They also began praying and talking about the prayers. It wasn’t until March – April 2014, during my church’s annual 40 Days of Prayer and Consecration that I felt that the prayers may be helpful for more than just my family and I was challenged by one of my readings to “put my foot into the water” so to speak. So I went to work and the end result was Be Blessed and Encouraged... My first book.
Hope McCardy Every inspiration I've gotten has come after a time of prayer and listening in God's presence.
Hope McCardy I am currently working on a project looking at how curses are passed down in families and how with God's power and help, curses can be exchanged for blessings.
Hope McCardy Know what you are passionate about. Become a reader yourself. Pray for God's guidance and direction in your writing. Be disciplined with your time. Always carry a small journal in your bag as you never know when a good idea will hit.
Hope McCardy Being able to share with others... Realizing that so many of us are going through similar or the same things... It is a great way to share and encourage.
Hope McCardy I am a new Christian writer so when I experience writer's block I pray about it and then wait... I am always amazed at how God shows me stuff that I could not think about on my own.
