Losing Normal started as a dream I had, sitting in an office while a producer read my script. She put it down, turned to me and said: "This is pretty good. Did you write it?"
My dream self was insulted. I said, "No. I got it from the Story Store," which is the jokey answer to the question writers are often asked: "Where do you get your ideas?"
That was the original title for my book. My hero, Alex, the idea of books and bookstores as a refuge and rebellion against the onslaught of media, arrived soon after.

I don't think about writing like that. Well, maybe it is inspiration, but it takes the form of a story, or a character that won't get out of my head until I write it down.

Aside from working on marketing for Losing Normal: a novel about a teenage girl who seeks revenge for the murders of her grandparents; a novel about dreams an the multiverse; a middle-grade book about a young boy in WW II England.

Working in TV, the cure is a vision of the paycheck. Writing a novel, without a contract, is a different story (wordplay intended). I don't experience writer's block as such. It's more laziness, or fear. If I get stuck on something, I let it sit in my unconscious for a while. The answer always comes. Having more than one project in the hopper is also good. I can jump from one to the other.
