During my teaching semesters my real job takes my energy: I write organic chemistry lectures, presentations, quizzes, practice sets, exams, comments on reports, responses on discussion boards, and a staggering number of daily emails. I find weekend and evening time to blog at lauralanni.com about teaching and worrying and baking. In my to-be-finished folders are two more novels, a children's book, and a screenplay (or two). Once I discovered I loved to write, my mind has insisted I continue the endeavor. Even when I'm not actively writing, the stories percolate and characters develop.

The most enjoyable and surprising aspect of writing novels: characters who emerge during story development and take over the arc. For me, writing a book gives the same intellectual pleasure as reading one.
